Project Summary

The Washington Street remediation project required JESCO to plan, manage, and execute remediation operations for two separate petroleum related releases/Areas of Concern (AOC).

JESCO continuously sampled twenty-seven borings and installed seventeen 4-inch diameter wells.  We collected, managed, and reviewed soil and water data to delineate horizontal and vertical extents of soil and groundwater contamination, develop a Site Investigation report, Risk Evaluation, and Remedial Alternatives Design.

Site specific cleanup standards within the Remedial Alternatives Design were developed with the following considerations: presence of surface and subsurface soil contamination, the movement, rate and direction of groundwater and surface water movement, atmospheric emissions, the biological or physical degradation of contaminants, and the effects of dilution, diffusion, and dispersion influence at receptor points.

JESCO's Remedial Action Plan incorporated dual-phase extraction technology to remediate the subsurface soil and groundwater and excavation to remediate soils to the source area.  JESCO designed, built, installed, and operated two dual-phase treatment systems.  Contaminated soil and groundwater was characterized and appropriate waste streams were developed.

JESCO's Operation & Maintenance (O&M) field crew made weekly site visits to monitor dual-phase systems.  All monitoring wells were sampled on a quarterly basis and all wells, recovery wells included, on an annual basis.  JESCO remediated both AOCs to site specific standards and obtained site closure permits.
